My parents had joined the Boca Beach Club about 10 years ago. The Club changed ownership several years ago and many changes were made. My parents now want to leave the club but were told that the membership fee (about 50K) will only be returned when a certain number of new members join. I think its one refund per every 12 new members. Considering this and the current wait list of members wanting out it would probably take 50 years for them to get their money back.

Obviously they did not read the fine print when they joined. Can anyone advise of a way around this or recommend an attorney that specializes in this area. Thanks

Have your parents looked into being able to transfer the membership? Even if allowed it will be very hard to sell and I am thinking they will take a large loss. I would call the club and speak to them.
So many people are stuck in these clubs cause they are so overpriced.

The club does not allow transfers. They get about 200 new members per year. My parents are about # 1000 on the refund list and they refund one membership fee for every 5 new members. At that rate should take about 25 yrs! They don't even allow for medical hardship ( Which my mom does have). Can anyone recommmend an attorney that could help?

In FL for even a rental lease there is no medical clause where one can terminate because of medical reasons. Some states do but I would think because of so many elderly in FL it is not allowed. I don't know a lawyer and I can't see how if they signed a contract they will win this but I could be wrong.

Smile Membership Fee

I loved it when I was a member. My membership fee was $18K - I did have to sell and it took about 3 years, I think. I do regret selling it though.

It was from the 1980's - I sold in 1998.

I think the fee has now been reduced to 30K from the 50K my parents paid about 4 yrs ago

Smile This is how it used to work.....

Back in the 1990s, if you wanted to sell, you contacted membership services and you were put on a list.

When new members came in, an old got paid off - I think it was for every 5 new members, one old member got paid off.

It took me 3 years but I regret selling it now.

I still love the Beach Club.
