What were the lows leading up to that? The -17C nights some places here have had were the result of days and days of being in a polar airmass and days and days of accumulative cooling caused by deep snow plus perfect conditions of being in a valley, clear skies, no wind etc. We'd never get those temperatures just coming out of nowhere. Those kind of temperatures can disappear pretty suddenly though. Currently widespread 6C here in the south and 9C in Scotland. It must be one hell of a thaw up there.

Impressive. We "only" dropped down to 9 F last night. Record of 2 F from 1968 still stands. Was yours a new record?

13.5°C / 56.3°F in Melbourne last night.

The overnight temps that you guys are having are ridiculous. Can't even imagine it being that cold.

I'm actually happy we had that unusual cold spell, makes me appreciate my climate, never have I been excited for 40's and it's our average too.
