How is 'date' an American term?? I know the only date you are likely to ever have will have been picked off a palm tree, but I can assure you EVERYONE uses the term 'date' in the UK

Meh. Maybe I should consider working the night shift.

12 hours - yikes. That's ridiculous, though I do occasionally work silly hours to help other people or get things done that cannot wait. I hope my boss realises how lucky he is to have me.
Many of my 12+ hour shifts were unexpected. I was either asked or volunteered to stay late. Deeper into summer I pretty much assumed I would often be working open to close since we were chronically short staffed.

My boss realizes it too, which is why I successfully got a raise this week. Holding onto this job until I get a 'real job'. I wish I wasn't graduating post-recession, but it is what it is. I know I'll be okay in the long-run. I'm absolutely dreading this weekend though.

From M-W:

date

a : an appointment to meet at a specified time; especially : a social engagement between two persons that often has a romantic character
b : a person with whom one has a usually romantic date

There ya go. You learned something new today.
