Snow storm has Mid-Atlantic scrambling for staples

My thoughts are with the people in this area.
I couldn't imagine that much snow.

It seems like the DC through Boston area has gotten a lot of storms the past few years.

Everyone always thinks of Chicago getting a ton of snow, but this winter we've only had ONE storm that dropped around 3 inches here in the city, and maybe 2-3 "storms" that dropped an inch each time.

I don't remember going so far into the year without ever having to shovel.

Watching the news seems like this storm is taking a similar track to the last one or maybe a little north but still to areas that don't get that kind of snowfall.

Its probably a good thing the storm is coming on Friday/Saturday and not the middle of the week. Be safe everyone!

Great point susancruzs. At least they'll have all weekend to dig out.

I don't know if this Mid-Atlantic storm is the cause or effect of our forecast for the next few days,
but we're seeing a BIG temperature drop tommorrow, with next week remaining below seasonal, with intermittant sunny periods.
Our high today is 32 F (0 C) with calm winds and overcast skies,
but tommorow's high is 18 F (-8 C) with 20 mph winds (30 km/h) with partly-cloudy skies.
(at least I won't have to "shovel" an Arctic-airmass )

Just something I thought was interesting.

Weather Channel Surface Map - Blizzard of 96

Weather Channel Surface Map - today

Makes me wonder if they're holding out... because this storm looks to have much more precip than the big daddy of '96.

This Winter we've only had about 4 inches (that Blizzard was technically Late-Fall), but including the Blizzard we're at about 18 inches and our average is 20 inches (which we'll pass with this storm).

It started snowing about 45 minutes ago here in Southeastern NYC.

Yes the snow here is deep, about 16 inches where I am, with another 8 to 12 by 5PM predicted. Of more concern in the wind prediction. The trees have been loaded since last night and branches have been falling. The large white pine in my front yard lost 2 or 3 large branches last night which are now on my neighbor's electric line.
It's still snowing with a brief period of sleet predicted this AM.

The snow's up to my bumper (I drive a Camry), and it's not even through yet. I was planning to brave the elements, drive up to Baltimore, and watch some rugby ata pub, but at this rate I'm not even sure if I'll make it tomorrow.

Don't even try it John. I've been up since 5 and watching the news, between DC and Baltimore, and the roads are pretty much impassable, especially for a small car like yours.

On the news they said there's as much as 30 inches in parts of the Baltimore area.

Some parts of NYC could get 12 inches (South) while some will get as low a 1 inch (North), thats how extreme the difference is.
