We have a thunderstorm at the moment, hurrah! First time since July.
I love the sound of thunder but I did get a fright when I was younger. We were climbing a local mountain on a fine summer day (another rarity in Ireland!) and a thunderstorm suddenly arose from the other side of the mountain and soon the lightning strikes were coming down very close to us but we managed to descend safely. It was daunting - put me off climbing mountains for a while.
Get a thunderstorm here maybe once a year! Haven't had one since September. Can't even remember what it's like anymore. No they do not make me at all scared. They are awesome display of natures power at its finest. Even if its just a weak storm the sound of thunder excites me and so does the darkness and "atmosphere" (during the daytime) when there is a storm, then the intensity of wind/hail/rain. NOTHING LIKE IT.
Thunder exihilarates me I think thunderstorms and snowstorms are great...like RichardW said they show the power nature has....I'd love to live in a place that gets lots of snowstorms and thunderstorms on an annual basis..
Except for the few that loud enough to wake you up, I like thunder and thunderstorms. Thundersnows are really interesting also. Cloud-to-ground lighting strikes do scare me because they can be quite destructive. I remember one time when I drove through a lightning storm (no rain, just cloud-to-ground lightning every few seconds ) and it was just scary thinking that one of those bolts could strike you at any time.
I love thunder and lightning, very exciting, the louder the better!
