Freeze? Frost? I'm not familiar with such terms...
In reality, we rarely we see freezes here, but occasionally they happen. Sometimes an arctic cold front swings down from Alaska, and then the valleys can see temps fall into the low 30s. The last time it was really cold like that was in January '05 or '06, I can't remember. I know, I know, some of you are rolling your eyes at my definition of "cold", but to a native Angeleno, that is cold!
I see your freeze and raise you a snowstorm (from Sep. 21):

WOW! You must live in that area that I saw on TWC that had the blue "bullseye" of temperatures in teh 30s! Seemed to odd to see that central part of Colorado with temps in the 30s, but it was in the lower 90s to your north in NW Montana. It was like... where did the cold air come from? It was surrounded by heat!
I wish we had some of that cool today... it was 90° at my house today! Thunderstorms now and 72° with 100% humidity.

Probably. Overnight lows in the 30's is very common in late summer here, but this strong blast of wintry weather was a little unexpected. Most of us were rejoicing though, since it meant the onset of ski season. We were looking forward to the forecasted 6-16" on Wednesday, but that completely fizzled out. It has been snowing/raining on and off since Tuesday, but is supposed to clear up this afternoon and hit daytime highs in the low 60's this weekend.
A few years ago, we did get an even bigger set of storms which dumped about 3 feet of snow around mid September:

Those are some gorgeous pictures, I like all the colors.
I don't think we ever got 3 feet of snow ever (even in Winter), I actually think that's above our annual snow total.
