We got maybe a quarter-inch of snow north of Nashville yesterday, November 30.
Interestingly, Nashville seems to have gone to winter itself (December 1) to have its first freeze this year, for the first time ever.
First freeze in Nashville this year was in the very early hours of December 1, some time before 2 am.
However, on November 18, a low of 32 F / 0 C was recorded; there were three hourly observations (3, 4, and 5 am) where the temperature was measured at 33 F / 1 C, so the 32 would have been recorded between-hours; given the long period when temperatures hovered at 33, it's likely that the actual low squeaked a fraction of a degree above freezing. The temperature fell to 32 again at the 11 pm observation on November 30 but stayed at 32 through the 1 am observation, dropping to 30 F / -1 C between 1 and 2 am, meaning that the actual temperature probably fell below exactly freezing around midnight, and thus, temperatures stayed close to, but just above, freezing just long enough to put the first freeze in December, and thus, in winter instead of fall. This means that this year, there was an (extremely brief) period where it was winter but no freeze had yet been recorded. Average first freeze is around November 1 in Nashville and the latest first freeze ever recorded up to this year was November 27, 2009.
Light snow was recorded as early as 9:38 am November 30 and was recorded for most of the day, meaning that Nashville is in the odd situation this year of having snow before the first freeze, a consequence of temperatures hovering just above freezing during the snow.
Still snowing in OH, PA, KY, NC, TN, WV this morning but here are the November 30, 2020 Snowfall totals from NWS Climo Sites only. Midnight to Midnight.
Very little snow for my area at double the elevation of the Ohio River. A little bit more than a dusting, it's keeping the temperatures down this morning. Still at 25F. I would post a picture, but I've gone over the limit without paying money to photobucket.
