A line of thunderstorms came thru here around 2:30 or 3:00 in the morning, and woke me up. Nothing severe here, but reports of wind damage across north LA. I got 1.20 inches of rain.
As of right now our average is good enough for the 4th coldest March on record. 2014 had the 3rd coldest March on record, while 2015 had the 5th coldest March on record. With slightly more seasonable temperatures on the way, we'll probably dip to 'just' the 6th or 7th coldest. We'd need a massive warmup for this March to end 8th or lower, so I'm guessing 6th or 7th is where we're going to end up. 3 record Marches in a span of 4 years. Welcome to Upstate New York
36 and rain. And for the next week...rain, rain, rain and more rain. F*** this s***. Is it really too hard to get some days that are both mild and dry??? If getting mild weather comes with rain every single day, then give me back those 20s and sunny from earlier in the month.
Sounds like you're getting classic northwest weather from October-May. So far this month, I've had measurable precip on 23 out of 25 days amounting to just over 13 inches.
March 2014 was the 14th coldest
March 2015 was the 35th coldest
March 2017 is currently the 34th coldest
So below average but not close to record setting.
And don't forget
March 2012 was the record warmest
March 2016 was the 13th warmest
March 2010 was the 15th warmest
Binghamton only has records since 1951 so it's easier to get near record cold there. Also more below average there with -5.5 compared to -3.1 here.
Maybe it's just me but it seems like Binghamton has extraordinarily low departures compared to surrounding places the past few years. I wonder if it has something to do with the city losing population which leads to less UHI effect. Maybe we've just been getting unlucky. Either way, Im glad that I only have a year left before I am out of this ****hole for good
At this hour I'm at 66F while MDW is at 48F and up at ORD only 43F...

High temperature today in Indianapolis has been 75F, the warmest it has been so far in 2017. It also got up to 75F yesterday here, but I heard that Chicago saw the lower 80's, if the weather forecast for the next week holds up, I predict that March 2017 will manage to end up being slightly warmer than average for March 2017, or at the very least, near normal in temperature. I suspect that the unseasonably warm weather the next week here will coax more plants into coming out of their winter dormancy a good 2 or 3 weeks earlier than usual. Although I am not 100% on this, I am willing to guess that winter is pretty much over with now, but that doesn't mean that there won't be cool/cold shots well into April or even May in the worst case scenario. Thankfully, many trees and shrubs are still dormant at this point, with only select species of trees and shrubs blooming and leafing out.
80s is a bit much, but I certainly wouldnt mind some 60s and 70s I have a gut feeling this April is going to be warm, can't explain why. Maybe it's like being on a losing streak at a Casino and you're just sure that you're "overdue" for a big win
For your sake I hope it is, I just hope its not above average here. This March has been too warm.
