Goes both ways. Droughts and dry soils easily heat things up in summer or the right hot pattern AND easily makes things colder. I know for sure it "feels" colder when soils are very dry.

"Temperatures have fallen well below our original forecast this morning - into the 20s in some places!"

"Why? Partially because dry conditions have lead to drier surface (soil) conditions. (pic: Past 2 weeks % of normal precip)"

Looks like Hudson Bay has less ice than last year but a little more than 2010-14. This makes a little sense to me I think. We've had backloaded winters recent years, perhaps the slightly more ice to date supports a front loaded winter this time?

And last years ice increase was a pure sign of a stronger Polar Vortex which didn't weaken and split till end of January.

Ugggghhhhhhh, why do we still do this? The sun still rises quite early, but even still dark mornings don't bother me, I'd prefer to not be blinded by the sun while driving.

2pm temps. Very nice day today. Sunny and in the 60s. Very warm actually. 5-15 above normal in the northeast! But the Ohio Valley is where the core is 20-25 above normal in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio and Western PA
