What kind of cold are we talking about tho? 5-10F below average, or is it going to go fullout February on us where the night lows are like 40F below average

Variability is highest in winter. Extreme temperature deviations in both warmth and cold relative to average to the level in February are almost impossible in April.
Seems like some parts of NE US and Canada are going straight from winter to summer, skipping spring. Or it will feel that way.
Stranger to me is Rozenn's weather — he's about the same latitude with barely any seasonal changes despite the large increase in day length and sun angle:

Still only 8 days of 60 degree highs so far 28 miles due north of Philly. Our warmest temp of the year was yesterday - 73. If that stands as our warmest temperature of the month, and it looks like it may given the latest forecast, this'd be the first April in many years where we haven't hit 80 once in this area! You can tell when you look at the landscape too. The grass is finally turning greener, but I still don't think I've ever seen it this barren at fully halfway through April

dhdh warned me. At least it's very sunny. The same spring lag with cloudy weather would have driven me nuts.
Nice was the coolest sizeable city in France today. Cooler than Cherbourg. Even Brest hit 24°C while we struggled to get past 17°C. First 30°C+ temps in the Landes, SW France (the 32.5°C is most likely bogus tho):

This describe well my city too. Due to seasonal lag, it is one of the coolest cities of the Po Valley in spring, but it's the warmest one in autumn.
Reached 17C today. Became sunny at around 5pm. Tomorrow might reach 13C with cloudy skies. London might reach 25C. The summer equivalent would be us reaching 23C and London reaching 35C. I would expect that kind of large difference between here and, say, Paris, but not London, a city that is only 1.6 degrees warmer on average in April (by maximum temps).

It's annoying though,I tend to prefer less laggy climates. Though it's nice to have August as the warmest month, it makes up for the dwindling sunlight.

That is often the case with major heatwaves though. During the 2003 heatwave it barely reached the low-mid 20s across most of the country, with only the SE enjoying the high 30s.
