I love stuff like that! Keeps my mind going.

For Miami(MIA airport) I see 1937, 1938, 1939 and 1985 where they dropped to upper 60s in July.

For Miami Beach which you mentioned 66° happened July 4, 1975.
Using end of July for Miami Beach, 69°F happened July 30, 1969

Have to dig deeper to see why on July 4, 1975 since you asked.

Pulling the Surface temps anomaly for the day before looks like it was localized to southern Florida as opposed to a big trough like today/cold front. Maybe a backdoor cold front? Is that possible down there?

Not sure. Didn't know that term until recently.

I wonder why Wunderground reports something different for that day?

That's for MIA which is correct using the airport. Low of 72 there on 7/4/75.

Here's what the 500mb Map looked like 45 years ago today! Take a look. Deep trough Jet Dipped down to Florida... Miami Beach record low 69° this day

It would be bizarre for the airport be stay warmer overnight than the beach.

Cold front finally stalled over Florida and Gulf Coast. Impressive how far it went! Basically met up with the warm front. Now it will lift north as a warm front but I haven't checked the latest.

Funny looking at the temp map and saying its in the 80s with a cold front that past. lol But yes, 80s is below normal in the gulf states north of the front this time of year.

Found this post... Wish NOAA would do things like this (cough cough)

"Wow. Record lows broken everywhere!
Athens: 60 (Old: 60 in 1925);
Atlanta: 59 (Old: 61 in 1936);
Macon: 59 (Old: 62 in 1920);
Columbus 63 (Old: 65 in 1957)
If you look at the image below, there's a temperature reading in the upper 40s in the North Georgia Mountains! Is this still July?"

Please bring that cold front to Piedmont Region in the Carolina... I hate how the temperatures are abruptly increasing right after the sunrise.

And another cold front to the SouthEast.

Current Surface Map.

It's happened Every 5-9 days since June 22nd. So will the next one happen by 16th?

Notice the Gulf High Pressure is strong enough to prevent it from coming south more so this time it's more SouthEast then south..

A weak one this time, air mass at mid levels is not as strong so temps will be near or below normal

So today is the 8th... If they are happening every 5-9 days then the next one should drop August 13-17th

I think they are slowing down due to blocking (Negative NAO) so might be closer to the 17th-18th.

This mornings surface map... Front stalled over Tennessee/Carolinas/Georgia. Airmass not too cold above so there wasn't an impressive push south this time but still... temps are tamed and near normal.

lets see if the next one has colder air with it.

WPC Medium-Range Forecasts (Days 3-7)

The result... Minimum temps and departure forecast.
