Still in the 60's here after lows in the mid 40's - you have no idea how good this feels in the middle of May.

This is what summer *should* be like - cool and breezy with frequent clouds and rain - save the hot crap for the tropics...lol. If summer temps averaged 15 degrees F colder here, this place would be absolute paradise.

What do you think? Is it still possible to see a spring air frost at your location or is that a thing of the past? We had our last on 7 May, and that is most likely the last one.

For Atlanta (where the heated Jumbo jets fly non stop) they've never dropped below 36°F after April 25th since late 1800s. It's special for me up here to get a frost this time of year it would be fascinating if ATL got one.

Believe it or not, The current pattern was ripe for it to happen with the trough all the way to gulf coast...but the air at the mid levels was not cold enough. Not enough Canadian push. The true cold air is north of Hudson bay right now. That's a far bleed down to go but even the freezing line didn't have enough push to go further south

Current 850mb temps. Freezing line down to Missouri/Kentucky at mid levels. Pretty much 15-30 below norm at surface.

Even the 6C over Atlanta is below normal. Normal at mid levels is 13C now.

The result at the surface is this...

Just the West and New England are well above normal right now. There are some chilly temps out there during the day mid May and some spots are with the sun shining high in sky. You can see the Satellite on map and pick a spot without clouds.

Florida in the 70s at 1pm and sunny. The front cleared there this morning.

There's that front that passed through Florida. Cool and Dry down there is not something we say often. LOL
