The hottest temperature was an all time high for both downtown and the airport. The coldest was a few degrees off for both.

Washington, DC: 8 °F/−13 °C as recently as 16 Jan 2009 (Dulles Airport reached 0 °F/−18 °C that day), up to 105 °F/41 °C on 7 July 2012.

Pittsburgh: −10 °F/−23 °C up to 98 °F/37 °C, coincidentally on the same dates as DC.

Both temps on the low end are in jeopardy come the 7th, although depending on how much snow melts I'm doubtful IAD will reach 0.

-13.3°C/8.1°F on Jan 8, 2010
40.0°C/104.0°F on Aug 12, 2003


For the whole urban area:

-20.6°C/-5.1°F on Jan 8, 2010 in Brétigny
42.5°C/108.5°F on Aug 12, 2003 in Saint Maur

Melbourne:

highest ..... 46.4C (Feb 7, 2009). Nearby Avalon Airport recorded 47.9C on the same day which continues to stand as the highest metropolitan temp ever recorded in Australia.

Lowest ..... 1.5C (June 23, 2013)
