If that was the coldest in Canada, then the coldest (officially recorded) temperature in North America since 2000 was the -72F (-58C) which occurred in Chicken AK in February of 2008: w2.weather.gov/climate/xmacis.php?wfo=pafg
I'm inclined to only count places where people live, and thus ignore Summit Camp. Chicken is an interesting spot. I was there in June (2nd time for me). It's probably the highest elevation town in the north, and thus gets very cold. Now, in the north you do get a lot of inversions such that the lower elevations of Fairbanks will be 10 to 20 degrees colder than the higher elevations. With Chicken, the weather station is probably at a low spot in the town. I use the word "town" loosely since it has no electricity besides diesel generators and solar panels. There are like 7 full time residents, mostly miners.
