Here in Vancouver the coldest temperature I've experienced was probably -5°C or so. Coldest temperature I've experienced in my hometown was -45°C, however.

Revise my earlier post. We hit a low of -9 F with wind chills hitting -21 F in CNJ this winter. We experienced 19 days with lows in the single digits, and 6 subzero lows this year. By far the coldest winter I have experienced .

For my area the all-time record low is -36C or -37C and goes back to the 1940s.

I have been a homeowner for 20 years or so and on my outdoor thermometer the lowest I have seen is -34C. I can count on one hand the times I have seen it at -30C or colder in those 20 years.

This year we had the coldest winter since 1946 here, however we did not drop below -30C. I think the coldest was around -28C.

What made this winter really harsh was the constant cold. In a normal winter we average about 15 days where it gets to -20C or colder.

This year we had 36 days where it got down to -20C or colder, so below zero F for those who are counting!

Interesting to see that you get your lowest lows not only during the drier season.
When you get a low below 20°C- is it almost always accompanied by rain or thunderstorms or can you also see such a low after a clear starry night?
