Downtown Vancouver 2013

It was one of the driest October's I can remember and also had a lot of really foggy days the last couple of weeks due to high pressure being stalled causing stagnant air in the city. On the top of the mountains, it was another story with brilliant blue skies from what I was told.

Here are the 2013 averages for Port Weller (along the lake Ontario shoreline). Notice the cooler days and warmer nights compared to inland:

October ended up one degree above normal, precipitation 0.51"/13 mm below. a trace of snow was recorded on the 23rd and the 24th, none measurable. Of the 12 days with precipitation, only 4 had more than 0.1"/2.5mm. The month started out warm, 8 of the first 11 days reached 70 (21C), last on the 11th, 14 of the first 15 reached 60/15.4C, then became cool and stable, only one day since then has reached above 56F/13C, a 62F/17C day on the 31st.
Lowest max 43/6C on the 23rd, lowest min 27F/-3C on 22, 23, 27. 9 days reached 32F or below, first 32F of the fall was the 14th. Highest min was 61F/16C on the 4th, highest max 79F/26C on the 1st.

Dew point average 42F/5.4C, max 70/21C on the 5th, min 21/-6C. The dewpoint reached 65(18C) or greater on 3 days.

Started out warm, almost summerlike, but then it cooled off to nicer weather and better fall colors.

Highlights:

*The rather low rainfall total of 36mm given that October is supposed to be the wettest month in Nice (LTA 132.8mm)

*Despite the dryness, it was a somehow dull month with 162 hours vs LTA of 187. This makes it the second dullest month this year after March which was the wettest on record

*The stunningly low standard deviation of high temps, with the month's warmest temp only 1.8°C above the average high

*Oddly, the month's highest temp of 23°C was recorded twice including on the last day of the month

*November recorded a temp of 24.7°C yesterday, higher than any temp in October
