I know it seems like nothing, but it hasn't been below 42/43 in a long time and its 40 right now. Lows in the 30's!?!?!?!?!?!?! And rain?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
32 degrees here at 4 am. There is a winter storm warning watch for North Texas tonight through tomorrow as a cold front comes through with freezing rain.
Dan,
I just looked at the 12Z GFS model and it shows a rather impressive warming trend over the next 7-10 days for the Central Plains. Do you think that the temperatures will likely rise above average over the next week or is the GFS over exaggerating the warmer air?
Hi...
Working the mid shift....but one thing I have noticed is that overall the jet stream will undergo a change. For the past several weeks a big upper ridge was up into Alaska giving part of that state very warm weather (40s in Anchorage for a few days) and then very cold air southward into the central u.s. It does appear that will change as an upper low trough will be over western canada with a fast more zonal flow over the central third of the country. That would mean a return to more stormy weather overall for much of the western and central parts of the county as storms go into California and then east into the plains with frequent warm ups ahead of it and then quick cold weather shots behind it.
I did look over the 00z gfs data and european and canadian model data and it shows a good warmup this weekend in eastern Kansas to well above normal levels but then a return to normal temp readings after Monday as cold air tries to get pushed back south into the northern Plains. But the fast zonal (west to east) flow across the central part of the nation will prevent the extreme cold from reaching as far south as over the past few weeks.
In a nutshell I would go more toward a return to normal temps....which I see in KC by Jan 31 is 38/19. And also a return to probably a more stormier pattern with rain/snow boundary running somewhere in your area in this pattern.
It's 27 now. The ice will mainly be on overpasses and such here in DFW because it will only be below freezing about one day and then warm up to the upper 50s. It's supposed to be 72 on Monday with another cold front behind that knocking the temps back down to normal. This is pretty typical weather for DFW, although it has been rather cold for the last week with no ups and downs.
Boy was it cold this morning!!!! Yowza!!!! It was 4 degrees this morning with a windchill of -15. This weekend will be almost 40 degrees though, so this is the last cold day. If I remember correctly, this is only the 4th day this year where we have registered single-digit highs.
I think everyone was cold this morning!
My low temperature was -4F in eastern Kansas.
