Weather is one of the few things in the world we all have in common when we're experiencing it. It's interesting to talk about and not controversial enough to argue over. Its easy to make idle chit chat with a total stranger because its a safe non-threatening topic that doesn't require a lot of thought or requires one to reveal one's personal opinions or beliefs, compared to politics and religion.
