Even though I think there will be some ice accumulations here, it could be memorable for northern Arkansas, northwest Tennessee, and southern Kentucky. I would REALLY be preparing for this if I lived there. And I am having family coming down from Nashville on Friday, might need to reschedule that....

Although it might get cold soon in some parts of the USA....I noticed that the current snow cover is rather unimpressive. Just a bit in the northern Plains, Great lakes, and upper New England:

It looks like after the current warm doldrums there's going to be some big stuff to track. Can't wait .

The Upper Midwest is getting a huge snow right now, and a big area of snow cover is coming in the Plains coupled with a swath from Arkansas to the eastern Great Lakes, so as the cold pattern settles in you'll see a big-time expansion of that snow cover map, as has been shown by previous posters. The snow cover and the arctic air will come in at around the same time, and once snow cover is established that will help the intensity of the cold.

Snow cover 7 days ago covered 36.8% of the lower 48 and was 3 times the amount of last year and the highest in 10 years. Impressive snow cover for November 26th

Currently at 24.9%. The only years that had more in the last 10 years were 2010, 2007, 2006, 2005.

And remember the fact that November had cold air diving but the Sub Jet wasn't as active as it is now. Going to get even more interesting coming up

Northern European winter last couple days. Yesterday morning was 35°F and the afternoon went to 38°F. Cloudy with the sun brightening the sky a bit at times. Today's similar, cloudy with a bit of brightness to the sky. I like this better than the very cold mornings we got a week ago, at least this is comfortable with a medium coat. Then, when I was in a shop everytime someone opened a door an uncomfortable cold blast would hit me.

Looks like some snow will hit us after all according to forecasts. And the proper wintery chill afterwards with a day where highs are limited to the upper 20's ensures a well set snow pack. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

Miami, suck those 81 degree highs of yours while we enjoy a proper frozen winter. And don't even think of sending the warm moist air upwards along the coast and spoiling the invigorating chill.
