The dew point took a nosedive yesterday in Nice with the cold front and associated winds. Went from 8.3°C at 3 am to -10.6°C at 2 pm. It currently sits at -10°C there with north winds.
Dew points had some pronounced physiological effects when I visited No. Minnesota. They were consistently in the minus teens and twenties Fahrenheit in Int'l Falls for several straight days. Indoor RH was single digits % as a result. Skin, lips, throat became pretty irritated, and I could literally feel my throat burning up while driving in the heated car. Lips were also very chapped, peeling slightly. Saw nearly instant improvement once they went back up into the (positive) teens and twenties F.
Working in ski areas in the lower South Island and would sometimes see relative humidity as low as 1-2% (lower than the margin of error). It wasn't nice overall, and static zaps were ever present.
It was possible for water droplets to freezes high as 7C though, so that was pretty cool. It generally happened with temperatures close to or just above freezing, but sometimes colder, with dewpoints as low -40C.
Not much good for snowmaking, as only a small amount of the plume would actually land on the ground.
Yesterday the air was very dry, we had a -8c dewpoint and it felt really nice, especially with the 8c temperature. I think the RH was around 20%, which is very low for winter.
Now back to 0c dewpoint and 4c temp, usual dampness. Apparently we had some light snow this morning but it was too early for me to catch it.
The dew point hovered between -13°C and -19°C (single digits °F) today in Nice. I took a dip in the sea and upon getting out of the water, the dry air felt downright freezing.
what was the water temperature?! I assume the low dewpoints were a fohm effect?

Brrr.
I assume not dropping to the dewpoint? Wind preventing further overnight cooling?
