But this is still too hot in summer and a little too cool in winter for my tastes. The West Coast is much better suited to my preferences.
That site on Wiki for Charleston is using data from Charleston Air Force Base, a good 15 miles inland from the coast. This site for Charleston is more accurate for the coastal areas as it is only 4 miles from the coast near the harbor:
These temps closer to the coast are more equitable with milder winter nights, and cooler summer days.
Not only that, the extreme average minimum winter temp using data from 1948 to present is 24f. There are over 3,000 orange trees in Charleston County alone(backyards, not commercially grown). A most def subtropical climate.

Pretty good. If the Appalachians extended to FL that would probably produce a climate rivalling SoCal. Unfortunately places at elevation in GA, TN, NC, etc. with milder winters also have much colder summers.

Yea, I imagine it would be a great climate. Had a discussion with a Florida native on that idea. Would be rather wet climate. With daily thunderstorms in Florida, what would its mountains do?
Daytona Beach, FL. Perfect balance of warmth and variety, and amazing thunderstorms.
