For those of you living in the Northern regions of the world, do you think you will see a white Christmas this year? I know some of the long range forecasts are out now, although I don't know how accurate they are at predicting chance of snowfall. Does your area generally see snow on Christmas? Would you perfer a white Christmas or is it not that important to you? Seeing as I've never experienced a white Christmas, it's something I've always wanted to see. Hopefully next year I will finally get my wish as I will be moving from South Florida to MI's U.P..
This Christmas I'll be going up to Yorkshire to visit family, which is actually where I've spent every Christmas of my life. They've got snow up there now which shouldn't melt by Saturday (ditto here, but melting is less likely there), so it would be the fourth Christmas with lying snow since 1995 in addition to two years where snow fell but didn't stick - a 40% success rate or so is way above what you'd expect for that area. Green fields and grey skies are more normal. Gambling on a White Christmas is quite a big thing here, but for it to officially count snow has to actually fall on the day itself - just having snow lying won't be good enough, though it'll do for me. I love the snow
There's an outside chance that London will have a white christmas. At the moment it's forecast to be partly cloudy and cold with a high of 5C/41F. The last white christmas in London was in 1970.
No White Christmas likely this year although I shouldn't be too surprised. According to the statistics, Vancouver only has an 11% chance of a White Christmas.
