I am currently in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I moved here for a relationship that did not work out about 2 years ago (dumb I know). I hate the weather but it is VERY affordable to own a home here.
The ONLY reason I am hesitant to move back home is because it is so expensive even to rent an apartment. I have been praying about it. The pros and cons list didn't help. I don't particularly like any areas South of Everett (too many transplants). I have been looking on craigslist at apartments in the Marysville/Arlington area where I last lived in Washington. I find most are over $700 a month for a one bedroom! I pay less than $600 now for my mortgage including taxes and insurance! I am retired on disability so my income is limited.
I feel stuck! Any suggestions?

Couldn't you get Section 8? That would help reduce the price range

There are 48 other states you could consider too.

Have you bought a house in WI?

Beyond less severe weather and fairly low housing/living costs, what do you want in a location?

If the only reason you want to leave Wisconsin is the weather, you can find many other places outside of the Seattle area that are not as expensive.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I live in Everett and like the town but hate the high cost of living here. I would like to move anywhere else but I'm employed in a low-paying industry so just trying to find a place where I get a "respectable wage" as compared to the cost of living is difficult.

Sorry to get off track. This thread isn't about me is it.

I've been told the waiting list for section 8 grants in Seattle is several years. Section 8 is a federally funded state program, yes?
