Saturday I left Bellingham with two friends and camping gear in my tiny 1991 Civic Hatchback. We drove over Washington Pass to Winthrop, then to Coulee City and the Grand Coulee Dam. After that we made our way south and east through central Washington and ended at Palouse Falls. We camped somewhere in the desert and the next morning we drove down the Columbia River Gorge, circumnavigated Mt Hood in Oregon, and came back to Bellingham via Vancouver, Tacoma, Seattle, etc. Total mileage was 1085 and let me tell you, that Civic is an amazing car but it is NOT comfortable for 1000 miles! It was hot and difficult and cramped, but wonderful and unforgettable! I'll divide the pictures by post to make it easier. The first set are from Diablo Lake and Washington Pass.

Next was Coulee City and the dam, and I'll also include a few from the vast fields in between.

Made it to Palouse Falls late Saturday evening. The landscape was incredible, but there were a LOT of people! We camped a few miles away on some dirt road in the middle of...well, nothing. I got to see (and photograph) the Milky Way more clearly than ever!

Woke up around 5am Sunday morning and set out. It was nice getting such an early start, but we couldn't find coffee! In a few hours we were driving along the Columbia River, and eventually, Mt Hood. The scenery near Mt Hood is some of the most beautiful I've seen. I finally got home around 9:30pm Sunday night, and man, did it feel good to stop driving! All in all it was an amazing trip, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

The last two shots are actually in Oregon, but I'm including them here anyway.

Always love your pics Lamplight! And that looks like one hell of a fun road trip. We did a day trip out to Palouse a few weeks ago, and it was beautiful! Did you hike behind the falls? We went as far as being overtop of the drop, but opted out of going all the way down. There were quite a few people swimming down there but it was a seriously steep, non official trail and we saw everyone basically trying to climb up on all fours. The Milky Way shots are incredible btw.

A few of my recent ones:

Sunset at Golden Gardens -

The view from Dirty Harry's Balcony in Snoqualmie -

Went to the top of Dirty Harry's Peak (same trail as the balcony, only add in a steep trail all on loose rocks. The view of Seattle dwarfed by the Olympics was an awesome sight to see though -

High enough to see Mt. Baker

Looking out from the waterfall at Palouse

This was one of the mini falls if you hike behind it

Colchuck Lake from last weekend - (which, Lamplight, if you haven't been out there yet, I HIGHLY recommend it.) The hike was no walk in the park, but WOW. This is one place where pictures do it absolutely no justice.

Wow, incredible photos! That lake is ridiculously beautiful! And thanks. We didn't try any hiking at the falls because it was almost dark when we arrived. I really want to go back, though, but in a more comfortable vehicle.
