I was actually quite set on Puyallup till I read that if Rainier were to erupt, it would be in the path of destruction. So, that was crossed out.

beauty4ashes: I assume the same would hold true for Sumner? Anyway, for now, we have settled on University Place which has a great school district from what I've read and asked around. Our son will be attending a good school there starting January (which is when we managed to get an apartment there). I've been to the school and like it very much.

I will talk to you more on pm, k?
Don't want to rain on your parade, but if Mt Rainier erupts with the same power as Mt St Helens did a few years ago, Tacoma will be gone. In it's intirety. So I wouldn't much worry about it.

When St Helens went, my dad had 3 inches of ash cover everything. He lived in the Black Hills of South Dakota then.

But the wind is normally off the coast headed East. So ash is normally going to go inland, not toward you. Just have to watch out for falling rock.

I remember reading at one point that Puyallup was only second to Spokane's School District a couple years ago. But that could have changed.
I graduated from Cascade, it is not Catholic. It is non-denominational Christian. Catholics are very welcome there, as are people of no faith. CCHS is a college-prep school system that has 3 elementary school locations and an early childhood center (daycare). I feel that my education more than prepared me for university level studies, whereas my friends from public schools struggled to transition.

There is a catholic elementary school in downtown Puyallup near the fairgrounds, All Saints is its name. You should also look into that.

Good luck
