I'm moving to the Tacoma area in august from Harrisburg Pennsylvania and I'm looking around for some apartments. I've been around puyallup, lakewood, and downtown tacoma a few times before to visit so I'm a bit familiar with those areas. But I came across some nice apartments in a town called Ruston near the Point Defiance park area. From what I see online, it looks mostly residential but with some really nice views.

But my question is, is it really far away from grocery stores, malls, and other amenities that I will need? The area and apartment looks appealing but I don't wanna be driving a half hour just to go grocery shopping or to find a gas station. Also, how is crime in that area? Is it relatively safe? And what are your impressions about the people? Coming from central pennsylvania, I'm used to the small town community feel where you may actually become friends or at least acquaintances with a few of your neighbors.

Ruston is a small town, that is located within the city of Tacoma. Multiple grocery stores, gas stations and any other amenities that you need are all within a few minutes drive.

On the waterfront there are also lots of anenomes, which you may or may not need.

I grew up in Tacoma, but my time in Ruston was limited to passing through on the way to Pt Defiance. Having said that, the North End is generally the nicest, and lowest crime area in Tacoma. I would think Ruston would follow suit.
