Yes, it rains everyday of the year in Western Washington, and all day. It starts at midnight and ends at 11:59pm. It is horrendous. Sometimes when the sun comes out, it will still be raining, and people will go down to their basement and pretend they don't understand. Once it becomes grey again they will slowly come out and peek out their windows to make sure the brilliant orb is gone.

I'm not really sure how to answer this question. Honestly it makes no sense at all.

I wanted to visit the Smithsonian, but you could not get me to live in the DC metro area at bayonet point.

Yes, I would go to the Smithsonian, but would not live in DC. But there is a reason to go to visit in DC. Does the same apply for eastern and western Washington?

I have lived in eastern Washington for 30 years and have been to western Washington (excluding required business meetings) maybe three or four times.

I do not like rain, cloudy weather, noise and congestion so I just do not go to western Washington. Lived in Vancouver, Canada for 8 months and that was enough of that weather pattern for me.

So why would anybody that hates sunshine, clear skies, quiet and uncrowded conditions even visit eastern Washington??

People do it all the time. It is called adventure. For example I recently went snorkeling and as fascinating and beautiful as it was, I do not want to live 5 feet underwater.

Your question is based on a mistaken premise. Those are not the aspects of eastern WA that its detractors dislike. They dislike other aspects of it.

So is there some sort of code that I cannot figure out.

Is it the diversity of eastern Washington? The tolerance of other cultures and customs??

I know that eastern Washington is not as a "suburban" setting as western Washington. I guess there is still a lot of people that prefer Wonder bread.

I live in Renton, south and east of Seattle itself but I'm in the city during much of the week for business. It rained just about every day this last spring and was even drizzly and cloudy into much of June and July. August was clear and dry for the most part. Mind you, I have only been here for about 6 months but I understand it's pretty normal to have rain-drizzle nearly every day in the fall, winter, and early spring. November and December seem to the very wet months, and the summer is pretty dry and rainless for the most part. But those are just averages. Mother nature can do pretty much whatever she wants.

You bet there are. Western Washington is like nature's air-conditioner and humidifier combined. Very little watering of lawns or plants is required, and no high power bills from constantly running the air-conditioning- only once in a while during the summer and usually in the afternoon. So I consider it a money-savings on my part compared to where I moved here from.
