Quick question:

I am looking at the commuter car and passenger fare. It says 20 trips for X money. I'm slightly confused what a trip is. Is a trip considered one way or both ways? If it is one way, the total monthly cost would be double whatever it says online, right?

Looking @ this site, it specifically mentions "round trip"... quote: A monthly pass is good for the calendar month purchased and allows for 31 round trips (62 trips on the Port Townsend/Coupeville).

I believe it's round trip. For example, when commuting between Bremerton and Seattle, it's free from Bremerton to Seattle but you pay coming back.

Really?? (only for 'walk-ons, or vehicle 'passenger' ', AFAIK)

.
OP was asking for 'car and passenger fare.' Car and driver pay each way, passengers one way (outbound from Seattle)
