Help....we're coming to visit this summer and I've booked a hotel but since the price is so reasonable I"m wondering if it's not in a desirable neighborhood. Will have kids with me so want it safe.

It's the Holiday Inn Express , 1917 Bladensburg Rd NE

I see it's close to the National Arberateum

The hotel looks nice and I did Google street view and it looked like any commercial busy road but just wondering.......

Thanks!

The area is not that bad seriously. It is not that great either. You are going to get a true city experience though.

That's not a good area to stay in, particularly if you have kids. It's not close to anything, the neighborhood isn't particularly safe, and there's no Metro station nearby. I believe those hotels are largely used by contractors who are being shuttled into the city to work on projects on an extended basis.

In other words, look elsewhere--there are a gazillion hotels in and around DC, no need to stay in one of the District's less-desirable neighborhoods. If you're looking for a more affordable option, I'd recommend looking around Pentagon City or Crystal City, or in Alexandria. You can often find deals there--although be certain to map any hotels with an Alexandria address. Some of them can be quite far out.

I rescind my statement. The only time I visited that hotel last year was to meet with engineers working on projects.

LMaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

DO NOT STAY IN THAT HOTEL.....unless you like sleeping in places that prostitutes work...That place is filthy...

I don't know your price range but look for something in the city or in largo/md...you can shoot down route 50/ NY AVE and go into the city...

If you just take the shuttle to Union Station, and don't venture away into that hotel's neighborhood, you shouldn't have any problems. I would stay there if I had to, but I know the city well enough to know where/when to go places.

That said, I would echo other posters that you're probably better off somewhere in the suburbs with access to a metro stop. But keep in mind that if you head east into PG County, Maryland that's not going to be any safer. You want to be in Virginia near a Metro Stop or off the red line in Bethesda or Rockville, MD.

Do not bring your kids there. Cancel the reservation and book elsewhere.
