Can anyone tell me what the area around the Washington Times (3600 New York Ave NE) is like? For example, is there a metro station within walking distance, and are cabs easy to get?
The only things within a mile are bus stops, according to Metro - Find a stop/station (http://www.wmata.com/serviceNearby/default.cfm - broken link). Some of the busses lead to Metrorail stations though.
I don't know much about the area other than from driving through DC on 50 (New York Ave) to get to Maryland a few times and I'd say that some of the neighborhoods along that drive looked a little rough.
It is an area of low income on the far end of New York Ave, closer to the Maryland line. There is a bus route that passes by or possibily stops right in front of the Times building, but I am not sure of the exact stop. It is not in the Business District, per se, and a good 15 blocks or 10 minute drive from "down town" DC.
Its the hood.....definitely low income where most of the traffic bottlenecks and congests on route50/new york avenue....Great company, but terrible location...
Thanks for the insight. Does anyone know anyone who works there, and how they commute? I'm interviewing at the Times from out of town, and am completely unfamiliar with the area. I'm planning on catching a cab there from Union Station for the interview, but am researching options of how I would get there if I was offered a job.
That's definitely something you'll want to ask at the interview. They may even have a shuttle to the nearest Metro station. Many medium/large companies in the area do something like that. I'm sure they have secure parking too, if you plan on commuting via a car.
