Any suggestions for on street parking on weekends near national gallery of art? Time restriction? I would like to be able to park for 4 hours even i have to park a bit away. Thanks in advance.

Saturday or Sunday?

I don't think there are any restrictions on Sunday. On Saturday there *may* be some in some areas, but not others. I would check the (rather confusing) signs. They'll say something like 2 hour parking Mon-Sat 6-6 or so. However, I think the 'cross streets' on the Mall (3rd/4th/7th and the 'frontage roads' on the Mall, i.e between the Museum and the Mall itself) may have 4 hour meter parking (I really honestly don't know). Best to just drive them and see. Get there early and recommend puling into a spot, then checking the sign (rather than stopping in traffic trying to read them).

If that's all bad, then check up around the 300 Block of Indiana Avenue, NW, or 300 D/E/F/G NW. Those are streets around the Judiciary Square Buildings and they likely have easier restrictions.

note: This is for a normal weekend, right? If you are talking around the inaugural, then forget everything I said and take Metro.

note 2: If for this weekend please note there is a slight possibility of snow/sleet on Saturday in some parts. If a snow emergency gets declared some street parking will be revoked (highly unlikely but you never know)

Thanks a lot. Sorry, I meant Sunday and a usual and boring Sunday! I will drive around in the morning and see what the situation is. I always find reading parking signs a bit difficult in dc so better to do it in the morning when people are not blowing horns. Thanks.

If you're planning to visit the National Gallery, be aware that it does not open until 11 am on Sundays. By that time, many of the best secret on-street spots are taken.
It's been a few years since I tried this, but the "Permit Parking Only" spots near the Botanical Gardens may be up for grabs on Sundays.

If you're coming from MD, park at the Anacostia metro station (free on weekends, and very under-utilized); Then metro to Archives. Otherwise there are some garages on G & H Avenues that charge $6 on weekends. The one I use is on G near 14th. Good for the National Theatre, probably a bit of a hump for the NGA.

And if worse comes to worse, you will find several parking garages located about 2-3 blocks north of the gallery around E and F streets. You may have to pay $10 for the day, so street parking is better if you can get it, but at least it is hassle free.

If you don't mind a bit of a walk, you can try parking around L'Enfant or Federal Center, just south of the Mall. I always see open spots on 4th Street SW (metered, but free on Sunday), 3rd Street SW, and perhaps on Maryland right by L'Enfant. Since it's all offices there, it can be pretty open on a weekend.
