I just visited D.C. from NJ yesterday for the day. I loved it! I hadn't been there in about 10 yrs. I would love to go back in the near future. I drove to JFK Center and on the way there passed by Georgetown. What a nice place to spend some time.
Throughout the day I saw alot being set up at The Mall- park right in front of The Capitol. What is going on there? We drove back there at night but they were still setting up. The workers didn't know what/who was going to be there. I also looked online but can't find it. I am very curious.
Does anyone know?
There is a concert every year at the Capitol on Labor Day weekend. Pretty big to do actually with a few stars. If you are around you should check it out.
It was an anti-abortion ralley!
We were there on vacation and heard it all day Saturday! I hated it! There were a ton of churches that gathered and rallied for pro-life and that is all fine and dandy and I know it's DC but we were on vacation and we have been there before when there were no rallies and no protest and it was so much nicer without any of that stuff going on! Plus, there were people walking around all day with red masking tape that said LIFE and the guy that gave the sermon for 6 hours screamed the whole entire time! Again, forget the politics and religion, I just wanted a nice vacation with my kids and hubby and instead listened to some man scream as we walked around the mall!
Welcome to DC! We deal with this type of stuff all year long. From international meat packer rallys to world bank protest to immigrant reform, you have to have mettle and fortidude to handle the traffic, disruptions, and throngs of people representing their causes. A few years back, I once saw a guy with a fetus in a huge jar on the metro protesting abortions.
I am use to it, but I was still just trying to enjoy my vacation and just really did not want to hear it! I will tell you, that last year, here in Yorktown, Virginia we had a huge ralley thrown by the KKK and that was very interesting. Of course, my family and I did not attend the event but we heard it and heard all about it so the anti-abortion ralley seemed peaceful compared to that!
