My brother will be moving to DC to work at the Pentagon in July. He is planning to buy a condo or townhouse and would like to be within a very easy commute of the Pentagon. Arlington & Alexandria are obvious choices, but he is also looking at the area near the new Nationals Ballpark.

He will probably be looking in the $250,000 - $300,000 range. I am planning to relocate to DC and live with him, but he needs to be able to support his mortgage on his own. Still, he is looking for a two bed, two bath at the minimum.

We are both early 30's, single and not into partying, but like neighborhoods with a variety to them - the kinds of places that bring a mix of people and activities, not just all residential or clubs / bars.

What neighborhoods should we really avoid - mainly be cause of safety concerns? Does anyone have a realtor recommendation?

Thanks!

I am not sure about the area around the new ballpark but I wil PM you with the name of the agent we used when we moved to the area this past summer. She is very knowledgable about the area and was not pushy at all.

Yeah I would certainly wait a few years before committing to anything near the new stadium as that area has long been known as somewhat iffy. However, I have seen many grand development plans for that area so if you did find something and crime wasn't of concern for you it might be worth checking out.

keep in mind that the Pentagon has it's own metro stop so you can metro to work and live at some of the stop further away (if you want)..
