Can anyone vouch as to how long the ride is? Taking a promotion in Bethesda and will be commuting from Baltimore City via Penn Station. It looks like I will have to take the train into Union Station then transfer. Any thoughts or advise are so very welcome!

It should take about 20 minutes...unless there is track work or some other delay.

I would say your trip would be about 90 minutes each way. It's about an hour to Union Station from Penn Station, and about 20 to 30 minutes from Union Station to Bethesda on the Red Line. Red Line trains run with 3 to 6 minute headways during rush-hour.

I commute to Union Station from Van Ness every day and it's about 25-30 minutes during rush hour, so I'd say 35 minutes to Bethesda is realistic.

30 minutes sounds reasonable, but you may want to plan on 45 during rush hour b/c of switching trains and the possibility of having to wait for a 2nd train if the 1st is too full. The metro system really is quite handy though.

Take the red line metro from Union Station to Bethesda, and then walk straight up Wisconsin. You can GoogleMap the location and see where the station is in relation to the hotel.

One item to consider if you have a "hard" start time at work is the Bethesda Metro station escalators are pretty long - the escalators by themselves will add a couple minutes to your commute.
