I'm looking for an apartment near the Friendship Heights to Cleveland Park metro stations.
1. One of us will be driving to NOVA, so ease of 495 access is top priority.
2. We needs two parking spots -- we're willing to pay, but are there convenient parking garages that rent out space? How much are the spots? Is it easy to park on the street? What about alternate side of the street parking/street cleaning? I spent a couple of years in Hoboken, NJ and parking was awful there. I just needed to eventually get a garage spot so I know that parking for the car is key. I just want to know my options -- most of the Friendship Heights apartments come with 1 spot, but not two...
We would love to live in a more downtown area (walkable), but we're willing to sacrifice that for Friendship Heights if it's an easier commute.
Is there an area that you all recommend? How is parking in those locations?
You guys are so helpful with everyone's questions. Thanks in advance!
Parking on the street in both locations is generally hassle-free provided you have regisistered your car and secured a ward sticker. Like anywhere, the closer you get to the main strip (Wisconsin Avenue in FH and Connecticut Avenue in CP) the tighter it gets. Apartments tend to be located on the main strips while the rest is single family housing, so two or three blocks away, parking is fine. Just do not block peoples' driveways or walkways.
I lived in Hoboken as well. No comparison. You will be in paradise.
Currently, I live between Friendship Heights and Van Ness-UDC.
There are a lot of apartment buildings in the Connecticut Ave. corridor. Spaces can be gotten on the side streets (on a hunt-and-luck basis)-- make sure you get the permit. You have to change your registration and plates to DC if you will be residing in DC longer than--I think it is--30 days -- check the motor vehicle department web site on that and also for the documents you will need to bring.
A lot of the rentals in the Friendship Heights area are in condo buildings (otherwise, similar situation). FH is a popular destination for eating out, upscale shopping, and medical appts., so street parking in that area (and the streets can be very narrow) can be very tight.
I think your lowest-hassle option could be to bite the bullet and rent an extra space in your apt. or condo building. Good luck!
Good luck!
