What is Takoma DC(the DC neighborhood Not Takoma Park MD) like? I hear in most ways it's exactly an extension of it's namesake in Maryland and vice versa. I.e. it has the same quirky progressive feel, the people are the same etc. As I'm not really familiar with this part of DC.

I ask because I may be renting a place in Takoma with a friend sometime later in the summer.

How is the commute to other parts of DC? Also how is crime in this part of DC? As I'd most likely be coming home late via the metro.

Thanks for any replies I get!

If you don't know that Eastern Ave. is the dividing line, you won't know when you move from DC to MD. It has a Metro stop.

Seems pretty quiet from what I've experienced (a friend of mine was looking to buy in that area and I drove around with him). I think you may want to consider living near the metro (for easy commute into DC if you work there) and map out how far your property is from the supermarket (if you do not have a car -- if you have a car, then nevermind). It looks like a nice, quiet neighborhood from the little I've seen.

From what I've seen, seems pretty safe (but i was only there during day time). But it may help to do a search on DC crime map (google the term and you'll find the website where you can do that).

The parts of Takoma right near Coolidge (2-4 blocks) aren't the best places. Other than that its nice and quiet as others have said.
