I heard DC is famous for its Cherry Trees in the spring. I am now in the area, and was wondering when they generally bloom.

used to be they would just be starting about now. This year they are pretty much at peak already. Warm winter and spring to blame. Whether its global warming or not, is off topic.

Global warming is definitely going on, everyone that believes in science knows that, but I cant comment if it is responsible for the early spring.

Anyway, I better head down to DC soon to catch the bloom. Where is the best spot? The mall?

The Washington Monument to the Jefferson Memorial is the best stretch IMO.

We've already passed the peak bloom date, which was March 20. So, see it soon.

Yeah the leaves are already starting to appear. Although one doesn't have to go to the Mall to see them. I've lived here for nearly 4 years and have never been to the very crowded Mall to see them because they're all over Northern Virginia. My townhouse complex has a couple and they're nice to see when I come home after work.

Washington Gardner had a list from 08 that probably should still be good:
WashingtonGardener: Cherry Alternatives

There's also the National Arboretum.

I have an out of town guest so I might take him but he's not a naturist so braving the crowds isn't a definite. Either way its spring perhaps unusually early but its here might as well enjoy it.
