Is there anyone on here who has some firsthand knowledge of a commute to Bethesda from the Baltimore (Federal Hill) or Ellicott City areas? My fiancee and I will be working in Towson and Bethesda, respectively, and we're trying to figure out the best location to live. We really like the idea of the more modern, urban setting of Federall Hill, but are also considering moving out to Ellicott City so we can shorten my commute (perhaps) but still be near a historic village with some nightlife and activity. Will the commute from Ellicott City be significantly better?

I should mention that my hours will probably be somewhat flexible (arrive in Bethesda 9-10am and leave probably anytime 5-7). What kinda realistic commute times would I be facing? Are there particular times of day to travel when I might be able to get between Federal Hill and Bethesda in under 45-50 minutes?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Andrew

Does anyone have any idea what a commute from Bethesda or Chevy Chase would be like to the Woodlawn area? Google Maps puts it at about 50 minutes with 38 miles each way. Would this be a reverse commute situation?

Live in EC - and the spouse commuted to Rockville - it took about 50-1:15 minutes depending on weather/traffic. And this was off schedule (head out at 6am and 3pm). If you're going to Bethesda, I'd say it would be very little chance of you getting there in 50 minutes from EC let alone Federal Hill.

To US Traveller, I did a similar commute a few years ago - Potomac to BWI. It's about 50 minutes - and it more of a reverse commute. The trip back home was much worse (seem like the AM window is much broader than the PM window for commutes).

And we tried both back roads (108/97/70 etc) and the Beltway/95.

YMMV.
