Relocating to Bethesda (Silver Spring, Germantown, Rockville: places to live, safety, moving to)

Hi,

My boyfriend and I will be moving to the Bethesda area this summer and are in the process of trying to narrow down places to live. He is in the navy and will be working at the Bethesda Naval Clinc and I will be working in DC, so we are trying to find an option that works for the both of us. Both of us are in our early 20s so we would like to be in an area with alot to do but not directly in the "city". I am from down south and am trying to get used to "northern city life". I have been looking at areas such as Rockville, Silver Spring and Germantown. What are average communte times for these areas, and is public transporation accessible? Safety is also a very big concern.
