I recently read an article about MARC and Virginia VRE to combine there service to run trains from one state to the other through DC, instead of stopping all trains at Union Station. What do you guys think about this? Should they do it?

Maryland's MARC and Virginia's VRE talk about integrating commuter rail service - Greater Greater Washington

I can't think of a downside to doing it. Makes sense to be able to move between the two states without having to transfer @ Union Station.

Good idea. Should have been done a long time ago.

Nice maps! I think a combined commuter like Septa or MBTA like in Philadelphia & Boston would be good for the DC metro area.

Would also love to see a commuter rail line connecting DC to Annapolis & one also serving the Waldorf area.

This would have implications for the FBI. One could take VRE from Greenbelt to Quantico. Or, if the FBI went to Springfield, they could take MARC from Maryland to Springfield and Quantico.

I agree that it makes sense to extend the lines to intrastate lines.

You need to have existing rail in order for there to be commuter rail. I don't think there is any rail from the Washington Metro area to Annapolis or Waldorf.

They should just run it right down US-50 to Annapolis. There is plenty of room in the highway right of way to add transit.

But of course VRE and MARC should be one agency, I doubt it ever happens though.
