As things continually ramp up for the economy after the recession, PG County is set to have a busy year next year with a few long-term projects finally being realized. Below is a quick list of a few things to look for in 2014 (this list does not include every single project or legislation for 2014):

1. FBI Location Decision (Go Greenbelt!)
2. New Carrollton Mixed-Use (Groundbreaking)
3. Cafritz Mixed-Use (Whole Foods/Groundbreaking)
4. Laurel Town Center (Completion)
5. MGM (permitting process/Groundbreaking)
6. Largo Town Center Hospital (permitting process/Groundbreaking)
7. ICC to be fully completed in Laurel paving the way for first phase of Konterra
8. Five-cent fee on plastic and paper shopping bags. (legislation)

Number 8 is a violation of economic progress.......

and

Number 1 may more than likely go to Springfield, VA if the PG County folx don't throw in more benefits to persuade them to relocate to the Maryland Suburbs......

Number 8 is actually the last piece missing to finally clean up the Anacostia river. If you have a better way to do that, suggestions are welcome, however, not giving an alternative plan is not an option.

Yea, I have to deal with #8 in mont co... even using self-checkout is a pain. I buy less now per week here and do my main shopping in bulk elsewhere. Bag fee is not that bad, but such a pain in the neck to deal with...

Why does PG have to follow mont co on that one???? Hope not...

the FBI location going to greenbelt would be a big deal, it's looking much more likely now that some other prospects were eliminated on the basis of not being close enough to the beltway and/or metro.
and the MGM deal will certainly be a boost.

i didn't know about the laurel town center but am looking forward to that harris teeter store..

Its the 5 cents on the plastic that drives me nuts. At least the paper bag can be reused for a trash bag and its recyclable. I've noticed that some stores like Giant, always go to the plastic, I'm guessing its cheaper, you have to ask for paper. Giant gives you a bag without handles, making it even more irritating...I do a lot of shopping when I am in Virginia, its not that big a deal, just feel like I'm getting one over on Mont County!! Little victories ya know?
