My wife and I will be relocating from New Jersey to Maryland as my company has moved us. Is Brandywine a nice area? Crime rate? I will be covering an area around the DC area. 6 locations in MD and 6 in VA. Any recommendations on nice areas to live?

All Of Brandywine is nice. I live about 5 minutes away from BrandyWine. It is rural. Their are no shooping areas in Brandywine. You will have to drive to either Waldorf or Bowie which is about 10 minutes away from Brandywine. Its very quiet with plenty of farms so you can drive to farms and get fresh foods. Branywine have no type of Public transportation at all so folks tend not to go to Brandywine.

Brandywine is more of a rural area. But there is new construction beginning to take place.

Brandywine watch out

Brandywine is home to a fly ash landfill. The fly ash come from a Alexandria Power Plant Called Potomac River Generating Station, which is owned by Mirant. That plant is using something know as Trona in the generating process which raises the concentration of ARSENIC in the fly ash. All the ash get dumped in a very large land fill that has Matapomi creek on its boarders.
"The measured arsenic concentrations exceed the primary drinking water standard. Measured Selenium concentrations also exceed the primary drinking standard and is considered hazardous waste...Current discharge does not, however, provide for detection of arsenic, so surface water releases of arsenic could go undetected."

Even though the department of Energy published these findings Mirant has yet to install those controls or even go through a new source review for their use of Trona. So if you want to risk the effects of short term exposure then check out Brandywine. Please feel free to be upset that the residents of Brandywine are having to endure this corporate neglect and pollution.

I would Highly Recommend looking at Bowie, Upper Marlboro, Waldorf, or White Plains. There are some excellent homes in the region! In particular, I like the shopping choices and highway proximity for Bowie.

Upper marlboro zipcode 20772 is very close to Brandywine. Brandywine is nice but it is just getting develope. You can get an brand new home in Brandywine in the 400k price range.
