I own property over there, so when ever I go up to check on my place, I get a chance to look at it. You definitely should check it out when you get a chance. They are not playing around. Given that they started around Thanksgiving and they had to flat the land and cut down a lot of trees. It's just amazing.

I find this a bit amusing.

Complaint #1
We don't have enough amenities and jobs in our neighborhood.

Complaint #2
Don't build amenities and jobs here because I won't be able to leave my house.

Gazette.Net: Prince George’s residents unable to chip in on casino site

Quote:
Forest Heights Mayor Jacqueline Goodall said National Harbor being selected would create too much congestion for residents near National Harbor.
“People aren’t going to be able to leave their homes,” Goodall said.
Kenneth O. Hardie, who said he has lived in Fort Washington for 38 years, favors the National Harbor option as there would be too much congestion if Fort Washington was selected.
“I think it will enhance the image of Prince George’s County,” Hardie said. “It’s probably the more attractive site.”
Joyce Thorpe, who lives near National Harbor, preferred Rosecroft as she said traffic tie-ups would make her commute difficult.
Rosecroft? Oh sure, dumping all that traffic onto what can be considered suburban neighborhood streets is the better alternative I'm sure.

I find it appalling that they keep picking that small meeting room to host these meetings. They can find a larger venue to host these meetings. It's ridiculous that they pick a place that small. Even when I went to some of those meetings, I spent a majority of the meeting standing up, they had to know that more people are going to come out as they get closer to a decision. They could have these meetings in a high school gymnasium, or even a multi purpose room in a school and it would be larger than that room in the library. I digress.

She doesn't know what she's talking about.

With that said, I am in the middle when it comes to development. As long as you have the infrastructure in place I think it can work, but you can't just build things around people, change their quality of life and think that is fair. The only reason why she is suggesting Fort Washington, is because she is only thinking about herself. If they can improve the infrastructure more for local MD visitors to National Harbor, it is easily the best location and it's not even close.

I never understood people that think that way, if you want to play at the "big boy" table (i.e. NoVa and Montgomery county) then you have to build...well build "smartly".

Im honestly more excited about the transportation projects then anything else at this point

Unfortunately, and more often than not, transportation enhancements come after development. And with PGC being a pretty large county with all three tiers (urban, suburban, and rural), money is stretched thin for transportation issues. Especially when relying on property taxes instead of commercial taxes. So, it's the cart before the horse. Developments have to come first to increase the revenue in order to fix the transportation issues. Or, raise taxes like the gas tax. But, people don't like taxes. lol Something has to give. For now, developments are easier to come by than raising taxes or coming up with the money that they don't have out of thin air which is impossible.

One area where they got it right, or in the case of mass transit proponents, wrong, is the ICC. IT was built ahead of or to induce increased development north of the Beltway. Most would argue that much investment was needed in south county. I agree. But here we are.

Kind of strange.
Strange indeed but also sad. If they want the county to improve the cliquishness needs to end.

Yeah choosing a small venue is an obvious ploy to exclude. A school or community centers (for example the new So. Tech and Rec Center) would have been a better choice. Hopefully they will do better in the fall. I agree with you about infrastructure but the reality is that most places don't improve that until they have reached mass.

They have to go through the motions. They have to save face and look like they at least cared enough about MGM's reputation to give it a look see. There is NO way MD is going to walk away from MGM. lol Especially since other states were "concerned" about MGM's past, yet, MGM is still building casinos.
