My fiance and I are looking for a safe area to move into, preferably in the metro suburbs on this side of DC. Just one downside...searching for a place in Maryland that's husky-friendly and (relatively) inexpensive is proving to be more of a challenge than either of us expected. We have no intention of surrendering the dogs (there's two), but nor can we stay in our current locations with them.

I've only lived in Maryland for a short time, and haven't been everywhere yet, so I'm hoping there's places I could have missed. We're willing to go almost anywhere, even outside the area, if we must. I came here looking for advice or suggestions, so...hopefully you guys will be able to help.

Here is a website that might help. Washington DC Apartments at EquityApartments.com

It lists which ones accept pets, which type of pets and whether or not they permit smoking or not. It also lists the rental prices.

Another one which I came across is: http://www.dwoskin.com/northern-virg...FWEQNAodWTkJXg

What is your price range? Yeah there are a few websites... but it might be easier if you find any for rent by owner for them to make exceptions, if your dogs are well behaved and the landlord would be willing to meet them.

Your best bet would be to find a private rental house with a yard in one of the suburbs. The further out you are willing to go, the easier it will probably be to find one. Where will you be working?

Some big apartments have somewhat liberal pet policies (e.g. 200lb limit or 2 pets no weight limit) so that may be an option. But you'll have to pay extra pent rent usually (my last apt was $50/mo for each pet) and often an extra deposit too. Private rentals are usually a little less demanding and more willing to give back your deposit. If you go the big apartment route, I would make sure there's a good area to walk the dogs and a dog park nearby so your huskies can get the exercise they need.

We were kinda hoping for something under 1k/month, before utilities.

He works in Rockville....I can relocate pretty much anywhere, so, its pretty much based on here he is. We're fine with the extra rent price, and the big apartments...the problem we're running into is the "breed restriction." We have been looking at private rental houses, but then we run into the budget issue....you wouldn't happen to know any websites (other than places like CraigsList) where we'd be able to find private rental listings, would you?

Sure, realtor.com . But you would probably have to call each separately to check their dog policy.

Husky friendly? I don't think any landlords care how fat you are.
