It's a 1999 V70 XC and I may be able to pick it up for less than $1000.

I'd check it out. These early XC either were fantastic or electrical demons. Given this one is still on the road it may be a good one. I had a 97 960 that I sold recently. I put 245k hard miles on it and the only thing that ever broke was the inside drive door handle. In my experience if you have a good one Volvos will last just about forever with proper maintenance.

I personally would not purchase a vehicle with that many miles on it, but that does not mean that it can't be a good car for you.

Disconnect the driveshaft and go FWD and save the repair money.

Those cars were pretty good. Some of the best Volvo made reliability wise besides the ETM which probably has been replaced already. $500 if not.

If you are ok working on cars it's a good deal, matthewsvolvosite.com is pretty good. So is YouTube.

Driveshaft was already disconnected!

That's how I know my present Volvo is basically fubar.. We took the driveshaft out, and the car wouldn't move. So it's stuck in RWD, on an AWD car. One year older but same model as 98-00 are the same...

This car was so nice, the guy decided not to sell it.

Those years of XC70 were problematic regarding the AWD system, and not really worth the trouble and expense-the AWD coupler probably runs more than $200. And the noise from the front sounds more like wheel bearing and those are hard to replace properly, one has to press them from the edge or you damage the new bearing.

Get it cheap enough ad it's good, but budget for the problems you now about and then don't be caught out with the stuff that will come up.

If it was the silver one, I never did hear back and I believe he kept it for himself.

I want a 99 or a 2000. They are absolutely great. No beefs with a 98 just that 99 and 2000 are DIS...
