Thanks for the clarification...I was also told something about how an R&B/Jazz Bar was driven out of downtown ...although the other entertainment venues around it werent asked to close. Dont know the validity of that claim either...

You're talking Jazz Street cafe. It was a pretty hip joint for Lynchburg, almost stuck out like a sore thumb. But I heard the reason for closure was tax reasons, but I also heard the other claim about it being driven out too.......and the only reason I would buy into the latter.....and not saying I do....is because, again, it mysteriously stuck out like a sore thumb in Lynchburg which has nothing remotely close to it in existence.

The guy who owned and operated Jazz Street and MUddpuppies was forced to close down both of these places because he wouldn't pay his taxes.

They operated for quite a few years so I doubt there was any problem from the city nor did I ever hear of one. Taxes are the problem for many clubs and restaurants. When the economy slowed and they had to move at the same time it killed them. Blame Wal-Mart--everyone else does

Oddly, even Larry Flynt liked him and they became good pals. I think it was the "wheeler dealer" mentality that both of these guys had I guess. Jerry Falwell was narrow-minded but in my opinion, he was not mean spiritied, despite the popular conception by the media. He was traditional southern pastor and if you have been to the south, most are very similar. They believe if you are going to be "religious" stand for something and obviously he did.
You should come to Lynchburg, you may be surprised!
Well, he did establish an institution that dominates the culture of a place the size of Lynchburg, whether it intends to or not.

What Lynchburg needs is a cultural counterbalance against Liberty / TRBC

The whole side of Lynchburg up by Rivermont/Peakland/Boonsboro/Randolph College/Langhorne/Link areas has very little to do with the Liberty side. It's almost like a little separate city. Other than shopping on Wards Road, there's not a lot of interaction.

Yup, we never met anyone from the neighborhood who attended that church. Most people were professionals and well educated with a wider worldview. The Falwell church crowd is more blue collar.

Badger and LLburg Lover you both may be right, but that still does not change the fact that Lynchburg is just plain DEAD
