My husband is going to be transfering to Dulles in about a year. We don't know anything about the area. Can someone give us an idea of the best areas to look at and possibly the best schools (Junior High, Middle school)?

Ashburn, Centreville, South Riding are all very good locations with family-emphasis in mind. Centreville is considered in Fairfax County and Ashburn and South Riding in Loudoun.

All three towns have excellent schools. All three towns are very diverse with combination of upper-middle class citizens. There is plenty of shopping in all three towns. However, the closest mall to Centreville and South Riding would be Fair Oaks which is less than 1/2 hour. There is mall in Ashburn.

I think you would be very impressed living in either town. I currently reside in Herndon. However, will be moving to Ashburn within after the closure of school. I believe these three towns have best qualify schools, etc.

Northern Virginia is a beautiful location in close vicinity to Washington, D.C. and Shenandoah. I think you will love it here.

Additionally, Centreville and South Riding are about 35 minute drive to Dulles and Ashburn is less than 15 minutes.

I agree with the above poster ALL those areas are nice.

I'd put Asburn #1 for you. It has everything you would want plus a very short commute for your husband! (a dream in NOVA) Schools are excellent and there is shopping and polenty of activites for the kids to get involved with.

If you want to be out a little futher and more house for your money... Look into Leesburg and Purceville. You are still looking at a very easy commute to Dullas from out here. (30min) Still have very good schools etc....

Good luck.

Hi - I would also look at Potomac Falls (cascades), zip code 20165. Excellent schools and only 10 min to Dulles. Great family neighborhood.

Another option would be Leesburg if you are looking for something a little further out, but commute would still likely be doable.

Dulles? The airport? Or a company nearby? The name "Dulles" covers a larger area than it did just 10 years ago. That makes a difference in terms of where to live. All of the schools in the immediate area (outside of Herndon and parts of Sterling) are good.
