I live in Damascus and the town is wide open for advancement. The Appalachian Trail, a 2,172 mile foot path that starts on top of Springer Mtn. Georgia and ends on top of Mt. Kathadin, Maine and traverses fourteen states goes right through the middle of town.

We also have a rails to trail story called the Creeper Trail. It is a 37 mile long walking, horse backing, and bicycling path of which Damascus sits right in the middle of.

There are two streams that are loaded with trout, bass, and catfish.

I've only lived here for two years but have written about the town a bit, it's a great place to live and visit.

I agree with you, I have been to Damascus two times and liked it.

Its probably changed a lot since I have been there , last time I was there was in 2003.

Damascus is a great little town. I live in Abingdon & love it. To me, Abingdon is almost the perfect small town. But if I wanted an even 'smaller' small town, or a 'little' town experience, Damascus would be in my top 3-4 picks in the whole Mid-Atlantic region.

My wife, and I, are considering buying a few acres in the Damascus/Abingdon area to move to when I retire in five years. I am in Law Enforcement and will only be about fifty at the time. I am going to have to work again for another 10 or 12 years for health care reasons.

We were in Abingdon once and my wife and I really liked it a lot. My wife wants something with a little culture, so I was thinking about the Barter Theater and the downtown area.

Do you know any good realtors in the area who we could meet up with, or just anyone who could point us to the better rural neighborhoods in the area???

Thanks.

Does anyone remember the name of a bar that was really popular in the 70's? It was on the corner before going down Main St. and there was Dairy QUEEN or similar in front.
