So why is William and Mary's transfer guarantee higher than UVA's? (3.6 to 3.4)

I don't think UVA is ranked higher than William and Mary; however, keep in mind that William and Mary is a much smaller school than UVA.

Ranked higher by whom?

At that nosebleed level, that's like saying 'time out! I thought BMW was better than Mercedes!' In some people's mind, sure. In others, maybe not so much.

Every time I quote US News college rankings, I get lambasted by people who talk about how 'it's not accurate', etc. Seems pretty accurate to me (and I went to schools nowhere near the top)-but the difference between 2 and 6 is very slim, indeed. Answer to your question, "So why is William and Mary's transfer guarantee higher than UVA's? (3.6 to 3.4)?"

Because they can. They are not bound by US News rankings.

size of the school. UVA can admit more students because it is bigger than WM. WM is stricter selection-wise because it is smaller and cannot admit as many students.

These colleges are overhyped. Just businesses like any other business, why advertise for them unless they paying you. I think UVA gets this phony prestige because it was Jefferson's college.

Both universities can claim Thomas Jefferson -- he attended William and Mary and founded UVA.

Why is this so important? You find the program you like, then go and graduate, and get a job.

Are you worried that if you only get in UVA, because William and Mary has harder acceptance rate than UVA, and smaller class size, and higher paid professors that actually works in the field, and higher paid professionals that graduated from them, that you won't get a good job right off your graduation?
