Any nominations? I'm interested in realism in every regard. So, ruling out the typical run-and-gun, what's out there that requires actual tactics, rather than bunny-hopping and such?

Old but true to what you were asking for: Rainbow6 series, especially RavenShield.
Ghost Recon is another.
I have been quite addicted to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and Fallout3 too.

Of course I am a PC gamer (kind of old school), if you were asking about console, then never mind!

You know, I think technically, Rainbow Six is considered a "Tactical" shooter and not a First Person shooter.

The last R6 I played was Las Vegas (one not the sequel). It seems dated by today's standards though but someone new to the game may like it. It was a LOT of fun but I cant remember too much about it.

Bunny hopping and non-strategic twitch shooters - Call of Duty.

Tactical shooters - my favorite is Battlefield Bad Company. MAG is also a good option. Note that MAG does not have a single play component and BBC is tactical in the multiplayer aspect only (in single play it's fun but rather standard FPS fare), it can be very strategic and goal oriented with the right team.

I haven't played it but heard and read good things about it -
Arma 2. It's a Czech game that doesn't follow the "run and gun" style of Modern Warfare or Bad Company, instead giving you huge maps and tons of tactical and strategical choices.
Oh, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, while not being too realistic, is A LOT of fun.
Yac.
